Microneedling is a non-invasive treatment that offers immense benefits to the patient that receives it. The procedure involves using a pen-like device with tiny needles (0.5 mm to 2 mm) inside, to make tiny micro injuries to your skin, which stimulates the release of growth factors and cytokines.
The growth factors and cytokines in turn stimulate collagen, elastin, and neovascularization. You will notice a brighter, tighter and smoother complexion. Typically 4-6 sessions are needed for optional results.
Microneedling procedures can be combined with a variety of other treatments and serums to provide maximum effectiveness of the benefits of the collagen inducing micro-injuries caused during the procedure. At Align Medical Aesthetics, we can also offer Microneedling with PRF (platelet rich fibrin) this is a popular variation of the treatment, sometimes referred to as a “vampire facial”.
The process for microneedling with PRF begins with the collection of blood to make the PRF. First, blood will be drawn from a vein in the arm, typically 5-15mL. The blood sample is then placed in a centrifuge which isolates the platelets, forming the platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) concentration. This step in the process typically takes 15 minutes.
Once the platelets, which are rich with growth factors and stem cells, are prepared, the finished product is used as a serum during the micro needling treatment. Skin will begin to feel taut shortly after the session. Following treatment it is advised to not wash off any residual residue so as to allow the PRF to continue to penetrate the skin. Skin will progressively improve in the weeks to come in tone and texture.
